We are looking for the researchers who perform investigations of chalcogenides, halides (crystals, glasses, glass-ceramics). We can get crystals, glasses, glass-ceramics or polycrystals for investigation. We have necessary equipment for growing of crystals by Bridgman-Stockbarger technique, X-ray investigation, crystal structure calculation, microhardness measurement, DTA measurements. Altogether, the technology for producing the single crystals of over 20 chalcogenides and halides was developed, and more than 600 compounds, solid solutions and glass alloys have been synthesized. During the 30-year-period 5 monographs, numerous patents, and over 800 scientific articles have been published.
The main scientific research interests of the department involve the synthesis of new complex chalcogenides and halogenides and the development of the recommendations for their practical application. This is achieved by the investigation of stable and metastable phase diagrams, determining the crystal structure of newly-discovered phases; developing a technology for the synthesis and growth of the single crystals of the compounds, solid solutions, glasses. An important aspect is the study of the physical properties of complex chalcogenides and halogenides.
Among the most interesting discoveries is solid solutions of CuInSe2 that can be used in solar power engineering as the absorbing layer materials of thin-film solar cells. Prospective developments in the field of nonlinear optical materials involve the use of AgGaGeS4, AgGaGe3Se8, and AgCd2GaS4 compounds for which the industrial single-crystal production technology has been developed.
