To protect our collections against harmful factors of the external environment caused by military destruction, we need the following goods:
Fire extinguisher – 4 pieces
Fire blanket – 5 pieces
Mineral wool – 2 packages
Rescue foil – 5 pieces
Thin white polyethylene foam – 3 rolls
Bubble wrap – 3 rolls
Gasoline generator – 1 piece
Air dryer – 1 piece
External HDD 4 terabytes – 2 pieces
Stepladder – 1 piece
First and foremost it is fire safety and fight against excessive humidity of premises. In case of escalation of the conflict our funds would be evacuated, that is why we need packaging materials. Due to damage to Ukrainian power plants and the high probability of power outages, we need a backup autonomous power source. In order to preserve the digital data accumulated during 14 years of work, we must make a copy of it on external hard disk drives.
P. T. Tronko Center for Area Studies was founded in 2008as the first research center of local history in Ukrainian Universities. This unit focuses on the preservation and study of history and culture of Kharkiv city and Kharkiv region, its tangible, intangible and movable cultural heritage. The Center keeps a rich ethnographical fund as well as numismatic and philatelic collections, extensive library with specialized books and magazines. Employees of the Center take part in expert councils and commissions at local museums, archives and libraries.
After a full-scale military aggression on 24 February 2022 the Center found itself in difficult circumstances. Buildings of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University were partially damaged by the explosion wave. Kharkiv since the first day of the war was bombarded almost every day, but specialists of P. T. Tronko Center for Area Studies stood in the city and continued to protect its cultural heritage. In these dark times, the preservation of the collections was in danger. And now we are preparing for a long and difficult winter, because the municipal infrastructure of Kharkiv is badly damaged by enemy attacks. So, we need materials and equipment for security of our collections from the harmful influence of fire and dampness.
